Rescued Dog Urges Rescuers To Save Bunny Too
The best friendships are born in the most unusual situations

Unlikely friendships are often the best of all. Unfortunately, this adorable little puppy was abandoned and left behind near a highway in Florida, next to a large forest area. When the loyal dog was rescued, he didn’t want to leave the place at all.

He kept urging the rescuer to go back to the woods, and luckily, he did exactly that. After searching some of the bushes, a cute bunny was spotted: the pup didn’t want his friend to be abandoned as well.

The pup was found just a month ago by Dan O’Grady from Ohio, who works as a truck driver. En route through Jacksonville, the man suddenly saw this adorable pup at the side of the road – left behind and in urgent need of help. Dan decided that he’d do everything in his power to try and save the puppy.

He stepped out of his truck and came closer to the dog on foot, but noticed a certain reluctance to come with him. The pup kept on barking and barking, leading Dan to the woods. We can imagine the look on Dan’s face when he saw the dog’s friend in need of a rescue as well.

“The frantic dog, a Jack Russell terrier, led Dan into the woods. It was clear the dog wanted him to see something. Under a bush, Dan saw a white domestic rabbit huddled there. Dan scooped up the rabbit and headed back to the truck and the dog followed,” the Humane Society of Summit Country posted on their website.

The dog and his rabbit friend hadn’t eaten in quite a while and were starving. Dan scooped up every piece of food he could find in his truck and drove to the nearest animal shelter to get them checked out.

The driver also gave his two new animal friends a couple of funny names: the dog was named Highway, while his bunny friend received the name Interstate.

The local shelter that Don drove though didn’t accept rabbits, although Highway was gladly welcomed. At this moment, the lives of Highway and Interstate went in different directions – but it’s thanks to Highway’s efforts that Interstate could be rescued. Interstate found help in the Humane Society of Summit Country, and Highway has been adopted and found himself a new forever home.

One of the spokesperson’s for the Humane Society later confirmed that Interstate also had been adopted.

“Who knows how long he and Highway had survived on their own in those woods. What a lucky rabbit that Highway refused to abandon him when help finally arrived!”
