Man Sees Advertisement On T.V., Checks His Jacket Pocket And Finds $24 Million Dollars

For most people, finding a dollar or two in between couch cushions or in an old pair of pants can be considered a big win and a highlight of a day, but for one 68-year old Jimmie Smith, it turned out some old lottery tickets were considerably worth more than he could have imagined.

Smith decided to check the old New York lottery tickets a mere two days before they were set to expire, and what he found out next ould undoubtedly change his life.

The tickets were worth 24 million dollars.

“I always told myself, ‘I’ll check them when I have the time,'” the New Jersey man explained about why he waited so long to check the old tickets.

The New York Gaming Commission, for their part, knew that the ticket was sold at a New York bodega, but did not know who had the winning ticket. Their only choice was to try to urge all ticket holders to check tickets for that winning date and hope someone came forward. Luckily, these advertisements and notices were what caught Smith’s eye.

After seeing a news story on the TV, he decided to check his ticket numbers and could not believe what he was seeing.

He told CNN that he “stood there for a minute thinking, ‘Do I see what I think I see?'” Smith continued to say, “I had to stick my head out the window and breathe in some fresh air. I was in serious doubt. I really had to convince myself this was real.”
With two days to go, he collected his ticket immediately and chose to have the winnings sent to him across 26 years. The man
