In April of last year, the wife of comedian Patton Oswalt passed away tragically. Now he is engaged to be re-married and some think itโs way too soon.

Commenter after commenter questioned the timing of Oswaltโs engagement.

But one reader, Erica Roman, a widow herself, came to Oswaltโs defense in a blog post she posted on Twitter.
My response to some of the ignorant comments Ive seen about @pattonoswalt 's engagement.#hislife #notyours #shutithttps://t.co/lV5DRauguy

In her blog post, Erica wrote:
โComment after comment poured out judgement and disdain. It made me sick. I had to stop reading before I gave in to the temptation to rain fire in response to every comment. Instead I decided to address them here all at once.โ
In her blog post, Erica explained that she never follows celebrities, however, both her spouse and Oswaltโs passed away within three days of each other.
So, when Patton posted this on Facebook, she felt she could fully relate and began following his journey for support.

She came to Oswaltโs defense, taking on the trolls directly and passionately.
โWho gave you the position to judge when itโs โtoo soonโ for a person who has suffered the worst to be able to find happiness and companionship again? Its been 15 months! How long should a widow sit in isolation before YOU are comfortable enough to release them from their solitary confinement? Because itโs really about you isnโt it? You arenโt actually concerned about the heart of the person who has found the strength and courage to love once more.โ
She went on in her blog post to explain that a widowed heart does not replace the lost love, but rather the heart expands in the grieving and healing process.
โโฆthatโs what widowed hearts do. They expand.โ
She concluded her blog post with a message to Oswaltโs critics, speaking for widows and widowers.
โWeโve gone through hell fire and lived. We donโt need your negativity in our lives. So please, if what you have to say about a widow or widower finding love again isnโt supportive and encouraging then keep it to yourself. We arenโt interested in hearing it.โ
