One of the biggest surprises on The Voice in 2019 has been singer Rizzi Myers. Her initial blind audition blew judges away because of how absolutely incredible she is.
The song she chose to sing was “Breathin'” by Ariana Grande, and honestly, Rizzi’s version was quite possibly even better than the original.
Her vocals are extremely strong and she has a great range too. She hits all of the low and high notes with ease.
After Rizzi started singing, all four judges hit their buttons within seconds signifying that they wanted her on their team.
Although, judge Kelly Clarkson was the first to act. Not only did she hit her button before the other judges, but she even decided to use her block on John Legend to prevent him from getting in on the action.
Legend is a highly desired coach on this year’s season and Kelly didn’t want to have to compete with him. She must have really liked what she heard. We can’t blame her. If someone had told us that this was a studio recording of “Breathin”, we wouldn’t even have blinked an eye.
It was a live performance with literally zero flaws.
Rizzi finished the song to roaring applause from the audience, and then the real fun began.
The judges started asking her all kinds of questions about her background, and we got to learn more about this amazing new talent who seemingly came out of nowhere. Prior to The Voice, no one had ever even heard of Rizzi Myers before.
“I’m originally from Kansas City, but I live in Nashville, Tennessee now,” Rizzi said.
Blake Sheldon dug in to get a little more information.
He wanted to know if she was referring to the Kansas or Missouri side of Kansas City.
“KC MO!” Rizzi said.
Everyone started laughing because the way she said it was quite funny. She was so enthusiastic.
“I’m not sure what that was, but it looked cool when you did it and sounded great,” Blake said.
He then asked her how long she had been in Nashville, as her voice didn’t have the classic Nashville country sound. She responded that she had been living there for five years.
“I wouldn’t say I’m country,” Rizzi joked, “But I do eat biscuits and gravy.”
Rizzi is definitely the total package. Not only does she have a beautiful voice, but her personality is pretty amazing as well. She has a great sense of humor.
However, the funniest part of the discussion came when Rizzi revealed that she had actually met Kelly backstage before at one of her shows.
She even brought a picture with her to prove it. Rizzi was only seventeen at the time.
Kelly went super crazy and asked her if she could keep the photo.
It was a hilarious moment.
Despite the appeal of the other three amazing male judges, it was no surprise that Rizzi ultimately decided to choose Kelly.
When Kelly hit her button first and then subsequently used her block on Legend, she proved without a doubt that she wanted to work with Rizzi the most. The two’s past connection and their backstage photo together just sealed the deal. Rizzi knew in her heart that Kelly was the right judge for her.
