As most pet owners know, there are some breeds of dogs that require a lot of grooming. Many dogs need more than just to have their fur brushed once every few months.
Depending on the type of fur and the length, they will need to see a groomer consistently to have their fur washed, trimmed, and then styled if that is your flavor! There are a few dog breeds that need their fur almost shaved down in order to maintain it.
But sometimes, pet owners don’t realize they have a breed that requires this kind of attention and their dog’s fur becomes uncontrollable.
Often times, you’ll hear of elderly pet owners who had to surrender their pet because they could not care for the dog anymore. By the time the dog is surrendered, their fur is unmanageable.
Or, you’ll hear about dogs that were just abandoned by their families. There are many reasons that dogs are abandoned and most of them are too sad to repeat.
One Shit Zhu mix was found covered with thick mats of hair. The matting was so intense, you could barely tell there was a dog under all of the fur.
Shit Zhu’s are actually prone to matting. Most owners of this breed know that and it is why the dogs need a pretty meticulous grooming schedule to avoid any painful matting.
But this particular Shit Zhu mix was found alone in a homeowner’s yard, looking worse for the wear. Clearly, this little guy hadn’t been groomed in a very long time.
The tiny dog was taken to an animal rescue shelter in order to get the haircut he desperately needed.
“About four and a half pounds worth. About three hours later, he went from rags to riches,” says Leigh Schepps, from InsideEditon.com
Thankfully, this dog was able to get the grooming he needed. For Shit Zhus, matted fur isn’t just unpleasant to look at it. It can be extremely painful and can cause a lot of skin irritation. Can you imagine what that feels like for them?
Now that he’s had his makeover, the pooch is looking for a forever home! He looks like a totally new dog after his haircut. You can even see the change in his attitude after getting the haircut. He’s so happy!
