Airbnb has recently banned a host permanently from their service after a video surfaced online.
In it, a woman speaks to a camera about a reservation of hers being cancelled under less than ideal reasons: Because she was Asian.
Airbnb spoke with The Huffington Post about the incident which occurred in February. The video features a young Asian woman and her friends near Big Bear, California, for a ski weekend. They’ve been traveling all day through snow and flash flood warnings and are clearly exhausted.
Speaking to camera, the young woman explains the host inexplicably cancelled on them as they neared their destination.
The young woman tried to ask how much it was for two more people to come and if it was best if they pay in cash.
The host responded:
If you think 4 people and 2 dogs ate getting a room fir $50 a night on big bear mountain during the busiest weekend of the year….You are insanely high.
I will contact Airbnb immediately.
A strange reaction, as earlier in the message chain she had told them that it should be fine.

The young woman tried to ask what happened and remind the host that she agreed to it. The host didn’t change her new stance, which prompted the guest to say she would report her to Airbnb. Finally, the host revealed her real reason for cancelling the young woman’s ski trip.

Hurt by the comments, the young woman continues and says the host insisted this is why we have Trump as President, to prevent foreigners from pushing around American citizens. The former guest informs us she has been an American citizen all her life and doesn’t understand why she’s being treated this way.

In a statement to The Huffington Post, Airbnb spokesman Christopher Nulty called the host’s behavior “abhorrent and unacceptable,” canceling the host’s privileges with the service. She’ll never be able to rent out to guests again.
