The stitch gets it name “broomstick” because it involves using a crochet hook to pull tall loops of yarn onto a dowel. The dowel is the “broomstick.” The loops are then stretched left to right in a row and then looped together in bunches by a single stitch.

It ends up forming a beautiful circular shape.
