The video app Zoom is being used for a lot of things lately. With everything from business meetings and virtual classrooms to happy hours and family gatherings, it’s become quite useful while everyone is stuck in their homes social distancing.

One thing you wouldn’t have guessed it could be used for is a wedding celebration.

You read that right. This couple got married at home, with their closest friends and family tuning in on their laptops and phones via Zoom meeting.

The couple, Tim and Ashley, was one of the many couples that had to cancel their big day due to the coronavirus pandemic, but instead of focusing on the negatives, they wanted to still have a ceremony and celebration on the day they originally planned so that their friends and family could take their minds off of the crisis happening in the world. The day brought a little bit of joy to everyone involved.

The couple did nearly everything that would take place at a traditional wedding ceremony. They did a practice run, with laptops and cameras set up to make sure that everything was working. They signed their marriage license with witnesses, but while wearing gloves and masks of course. They even had a wedding photographer in attendance, also outfitted in gloves and a mask and following all social distancing rules.

Like any normal wedding day, the couple got ready separately, so that the groom didn’t see the bride. Tim got into his tux and Ashley did her hair and makeup via virtual tutorial on her computer. She ordered a simple white dress from Rent the Runway, because she plans on saving the one she planned on getting married in for the day when they have a proper celebration.

After the two were dressed and ready, Ashley came down the stairs to meet her groom and it was time for the vows.

“For California law you need to have someone physically with you to solemnize the marriage. A friend of ours got licensed to be our officiant, physically here legally to make it official.” Ashley said of how they made the ceremony happen and the marriage legal. As the two said I do, there were cheers coming from the screens they had set-up, everyone excited for the happy couple on their special day.

No wedding would be complete without a first dance, and Tim and Ashley didn’t forget to make that happen either. They made their way to the balcony, and despite inclement weather held each other and danced without ever leaving the comfort of their home.

Tim and Ashley’s wedding was as perfect as it could be, even if it wasn’t what they had originally imagined. This definitely will be a day they will won’t forget.
