Polar Bears Fall Victim to Trophy Hunting

August 8th, 2019

If you’re one of the few who attribute today’s strange weather patterns to climate change, here’s a high five. It’s a pressing issue that needs to be addressed and fast. There are many ways we The rise in global temperatures, droughts, heat waves, rising sea levels, increased intensity of hurricanes and other natural calamities are only a few of the many drastic effects of climate change.

You’d think these would rouse humanity to make the necessary changes to counter the effects and prevent worse consequences but unfortunately, there is still an infuriating amount of indifference and selfishness taking place worldwide. Take, for example, animal hunters. Their misplaced enthusiasm is aiding our planet’s demise. Because of extreme weather changes that heavily damaged ecosystems, an alarming number of species are already on the verge of extinction.

Polar bears are among those who are decreasing in number – all because of some people’s insistence on carrying out such a horrendous hobby. Polar bears are already struggling to survive because of (we really cannot emphasize this enough) climate change. In fact, just last year, researchers conducted a study on the Arctic creatures. Researchers discovered how the animals were suffering from extreme food shortage. The melting sea ice in the Arctic greatly affected the pattern of the polar bears who now need to use more energy and travel farther for food.

As if this isn’t bad enough, animal hunters continue to kill them off. This cruel practice benefits no one but their own ignorant selves. Some of the most amazing animals are now reduced to trophies, hunted for the sake of gaining satisfaction and a sense of accomplishment. From lions to tigers, elephants and polar bears, many animals continue to fall victim to this cruelty.

Hunting polar bears is illegal in the US, but this hasn’t stopped hunters from traveling to a place where no law prohibits the act – Canada. Killing polar bears doesn’t just reward animal hunters with an ego boost and a feeling of achievement. These hunters earn from it to by engaging in business with traders. The skin of dead polar bears are then turned into rugs. Talk about a disgusting trade.

No matter how highly discouraged the act of trophy hunting is, hunters continue to influence many others to experience it for themselves. They go as far as posing with dead animals and uploading the photos to social media.

While there are a few people online who applaud animal hunters, the ones who speak out against this cruelty heavily outnumber them. Twitter is a top site where users air their opinion on the matter. Thanks to social media users who use the platform to contradict the senseless act, more awareness is being raised and the right organizations are being alerted.

Animal rights activists have taken a more aggressive approach to putting a stop to animal hunters. It’s time the world acknowledges the domino effect of each irresponsible act done to nature and the planet in general. Climate change has already left us with more than enough warnings. The last thing we need is more people adding to its strain.

Until we fully accept our roles as stewards of the planet and all the responsibility the role entails, our planet will continue to collapse and humanity, not just animals, will struggle with survival.
