When adopting a dog it is always important to take into consideration the type of breed your pup is and the amount of care and attention they’ll need to lead healthy lives. Some dogs need more exercise, some are prone to allergies or skin conditions, but whatever your dog needs, as their owner you should be prepared to handle whatever might arise.
Unfortunately, people don’t always take these things into consideration and adopt a dog or dogs they are unable to care for properly. The amount of neglected and abandoned dogs grows daily and rescue organizations do all they can to help especially in extreme cases. There are many lucky dogs out there who have been saved from terrible situations and placed in wonderful homes.
Recently the RSPCA received 2 separate calls for a total of 15 abandoned and severely neglected dogs that needed help immediately.
The first call was about four Newfoundlands, two cockapoos and two Lhasa Apsos that had been found after they were dumped and left in Vale of Belvoir, England. The dogs were all in very bad shape, emaciated and incredibly matted hair, leaving some of the dogs unrecognizable. If that wasn’t bad enough they received a second call about 7 other Newfoundlands that had been dumped not too far from the first site and abandoned in the same horrible condition.

Rescuers believe these 2 incidents are not a coincidence considering the horrible condition all the dogs were in, as well as the close proximity and time of abandonment.
Once all the dogs were at the shelter it was very clear it had been a long time since they had proper care or grooming. These types of dogs all have coats that require extra work and attention and can get very out of control very quickly. Local groomers volunteered to bring in their equipment and help shave off literally pounds of matted fur from these animals.

One of the dogs was so badly neglected the volunteers shaved 16 pounds of fur off her already weakened body!
It’s unimaginable to think about what these dogs have been through but luckily they had someone looking out for them. Now with their coats under control and getting back to health, if no one comes forward to claim them these pups will soon be ready for their new forever homes.

The RSPCA shelter has asked to be contacted if anyone has any information, “We hope that a member of the public may recognize these dogs or have some information for us, if so they can contact our inspectorate appeal line in confidence on 0300 123 8018.”
