Giving birth is one of the most magical and nerve-wracking times in a couple’s life.
There’s so much that could go wrong, which is why it feels like such a miracle to be able to hold a tiny newborn in your arms.
Unfortunately, despite the things that a woman has to put her body through to give birth, many partners fail to show even basic respect.
Take it from one labor and delivery nurse, who’s heard all sorts of unbelievable comments in the delivery room.
TikTok user Hollyd_rn shared a few of the misogynistic, unsupportive, and inappropriate things that have come out of the mouths of fathers-to-be, and you won’t want to believe they’re true.
To add a comedic twist, Holly decided to turn the comments she’d heard into ironic inspirational quotes in a series of videos.
Let’s see if we can find the humor in some of these conversations!
1. C-Section Support
We can only imagine the sort of big-headed, abusive person who would make a comment like this. The poor baby’s going to be bullied and belittled throughout their childhood.
2. The Real Father?
Of all the times to doubt your blood ties to your partner’s baby, the delivery room is not the place. Come on – there’s more important stuff than DNA testing right now.
3. Too Tired For This
Phew, having a baby is such hard work. All that waiting around for something to happen – who said the partner’s job was easy? Totally get it if you’re too exhausted to see this one out.
4. Epidurals? Too Expensive
We get being tight with your money, we really do. But when your partner is in the worst pain of her life and would take any sort of relief, you don’t get to control the finances. Not. On.
5. Hurry It Up
Isn’t the birth of a baby such an inconvenience? This guy is about to have a huge wake-up call – he’s already considering slacking off fatherhood and the baby hasn’t even come out yet. He’ll soon realize that “plans” is a foreign word when you have a newborn to look after.
6. Remember His Mom
There’s plenty of time to weigh up the pros and cons of epidurals, but ultimately, it’s the mom’s decision. This guy seems to think he’s more involved than he actually is. And to bring up his mom, like she’s some sort of poster girl for pain relief-free births? So not cool.
7. Patch Her Up
Honestly, the grossness of this comment is next-level. Imagine your partner’s ability to have sex being the primary concern after she’s just birthed your child! There’s only one way that the doctor should respond: “How small do you need it, sir?”
8. The Big Event
This guy is about to witness the most important and miraculous thing to happen in his life, and he’s more concerned about watching the TV.
Three words to his partner: get him gone.
According to relationship coach Alex Scot, these blood-boiling comments can take a more serious toll than just hurt feelings.
“Contemptuous interactions affect people physically, often resulting in increased cases of illnesses like colds and the flu.”
So, if your man says toxic things to you, you’re likely to experience toxic side effects. All we can say to that is, Mamas- don’t put up with any crap.
