There is nothing worse than a child who isn’t happy on their birthday. Most children plan their parties for weeks and then celebrate surrounded by family and friends. One little boy named Teddy was excited to invite all his friends from his kindergarten class to his party at a pizza restaurant in Tucson, Arizona.

Sadly, nobody showed up.

His mother shared a photo of her son sitting by himself at a table full of pizza and plates. He seemed upset, and his parents weren’t very happy, either. His mother said:

“I’m done with parties for a while.”

She explained that when she booked the party she was told that his family members and friends were going. Several of them had said they would be there. She couldn’t believe that none of them showed up and only a couple called to explain why. She said:

“They told me they were going to come. I got text messages saying they were going to come, too. “

Her photo was shared online by KVOA reporter Nick Vin Zant.

When people saw it, they sent him motivational comments. The post was eventually seen by the Phoenix Suns. They invited the boy to their next game. The team tweeted:

“How about we celebrate with thousands at our place! Tickets to Wednesday’s #SunsVSLakers game are all your Teddy! Talk soon!”

Phoenix Rising, a professional soccer team, also saw the photo and invited the boy to a game.

They tweeted:

“Teddy can get The Mala from @VeneziasPizza and join 7,000 of his closest friends this Friday. Come on out Teddy! #UpRising”

Teddy and his family were thrilled with the tickets, but his mom insists that she did not share the photo to try to get anything for free.

She said:

“We weren’t expecting the tickets. We never asked for anything, but we are happy that they invited us. It is going to be his first game, and he is super happy about it.”

Now that the family has dealt with all the disappointment of the no-shows at the party, they spoke about how they felt that day. His dad said:

“I was bummed; I was bummed out for sure. Teddy, the biggest thing for him was having his classmates there, so not seeing them show up an hour into the party was disappointing. He’s 6, so he was distracted by the arcade games, the pizza, he got over it quickly. He’s tough. But when Sil told me she was posting [the photo], I told her not to do it, but she did, and it took off. It’s pretty wild.”

He also explained how he thought at least a few people would show up.

They wanted the party to be big and had paid to feed a lot of people. He said he doesn’t understand what happened. He added:

“20-something guests she had expected showed up. After giving invitations to Teddy’s teacher with her phone number on them, she said she got ‘like 15 RSVPs,’ and a few others who responded that they wouldn’t be making it.”

Teddy’s mom added:

“I was kind of shocked and then at the end when I had to pay ($130) for it, I was upset. That’s why I wrote a message. But I never expected any of this, for this to go so viral.”

Teddy’s mom said that she doesn’t plan to host any more parties for the boy anytime soon.

From now on, she just wants to take him on a trip where he can have just as much fun and not worry about anyone showing up or not showing up. She also explained that she didn’t think the photo would ever go viral. She said:

“Honestly, I would love to go back in time and not have sent that message. We don’t want all the attention. We didn’t do this for attention or for gifts or anything. I did it at the moment, but I wasn’t smart. I was upset. That’s it.”

Hopefully, Teddy forgets about his party and can enjoy future birthdays without all the stress of wondering who will come and who won’t.
