Being in a relationship is hard work. It takes efforts from both parties. In essence, with a relationship, you mix and match two completely different personalities to find some common ground where love can blossom.

That is why it is important to be happy with yourself before committing to someone else’s happiness. For this to be truly effective, and for any relationship to work, you need to spend some time alone first.

The fact is that there are a lot of variables that go into forming a relationship. Do you share common interests, are there things that you absolutely can’t stand in a person, and other meaningful questions that define you and your partner as a couple?

At the end of the day, either individually or as a couple, you decide that things just aren’t working out and move on. But why is it so hard to find the right person?

With many relationships not lasting past the two-year mark, people are left wondering what they can do to ensure a longer-lasting relationship in the future. Fortunately, there is a step you can take to make you better in any relationship you are in. You can do this by remaining single.

How can I get better at being in a relationship when I am single, you might ask? As a single person, you aren’t having to put on the mask that you wear when you are trying to please a potential mate. You can take your time as a single person to figure out who you really are and what you want out of life.

Being single means you don’t have to answer to a partner. There is no one there to judge you for your actions, and you have the opportunity to truly explore what you want out of life and a partner, or even if you want a partner at all. Keep in mind that being single is a viable relationship status.

Being single allows you to fully develop your interests and emotions, and hopefully come to the realization that you are responsible for your own happiness. While you might love your partner and want to see them happy, true happiness comes from within.

It takes most people a long time to come to this realization. Taking some time to be single, especially once leaving a relationship, can help you realize this and become a better partner in the process. That is why you should take the time when you are single to think about what makes you happy.

It is also the reason you want to avoid getting into a relationship too soon after leaving another. After a breakup, especially a hard one, it might take some time for you to sort out how you feel. And you should definitely avoid getting into a relationship for the sake of getting into a relationship.

You might be someone who feels like they have to be in a relationship, but that is not the case. Being single gives you the time to learn who you really are on a more intimate level. As you realize what is most important to you, you will begin to know what to look for in any potential future partners.

The most important thing to do when getting into a relationship is to be who you truly are. And hopefully, the person you are with is the same way. Only by being your true authentic selves, free of the mask you put up, can you hope to make a connection and develop a long-lasting relationship.

That is why it is important to find someone who loves you for who you are and not for who they want you to be. And yes, people are never truly alike and share the same interests, but as long as both partners are happy with themselves, those obstacles can be overcome.

Most importantly, don’t use a relationship as a cure-all for your woes. Being in a relationship can energize you, but only for a short time. Eventually, who each partner truly is comes out, and that is when the true test of a relationship begins.

Only by being your true authentic self from the beginning can you hope to have the happy relationship that most people seek. And taking the time to be single and learn what you really want from life can help you become a better partner in the long run.
