House fires have to be one of the most heartbreaking things that can happen to a person. Expensive household items can eventually be replaced- but those special items of personal value or meaning can never be replaced.

Of course, the most important thing is that everybody gets out of the house safely- and when professional surfer Kelia Moniz’ parents managed to escape from their devastating house fire unscathed, the whole Moniz family were praising God.

The Hawaii home had gone up in flames on Tuesday night, burning down everything inside.

It’s all thanks to Hawaii’s current lockdown restrictions that nobody in the family was caught up in the fire. On an Instagram post, Kelia explained that under normal circumstances, the entire family, which includes five siblings and four grandchildren, would have been gathered inside the moment that the fire ripped through the house,

“My parents house, my childhood home went up into flames. Very crazy you have quickly things can change,” she wrote alongside a reel of photos showing her parents, Tony and Tammy Moniz, standing by the house’s charred remians.

“So last night’s scenario could have had a much different outcome,” she wrote. “Today we remember a house full of love, and so many (memories) thanking God we have my mom and dad here with us.”

That next day, Mom Tammy began to shift through the wreck of her home in search of former belongings, accompanied by some friends and family members.

In a walk-through video of the damage on her Instagram stories, Tammy makes a shocking discovery.

“The house is gone – this bag my mom had in there had her Bible and her Bible is completely intact. It’s the craziest thing ever,” Kelia said on her Instagram stories. “Never a rainbow without the rain.”

In the video, Tammy’s friend and pastor can be seen curiously picking up a bag from amongst the remains of the living room.

When Tammy asks if anything is inside, the pastor reveals the Bible from inside- still in almost perfect condition!

“My Bible survived!” Tammy exclaimed. “The only thing I was really desperate about was my Bible and she survived. This was in the middle of my house. Thank you Jesus, holy cow.”

Anyone who owns a Bible will know how special and personal your own copy feels to you. Many people take the time to read through their Bible in full, highlighting parts that resonate the most with them and bookmarking pages that they can turn to in times of need.

A new bible just wouldn’t feel the same- as Tammy confirms.

“When you have a Bible, you read and underline and highlight when God speaks to your heart. Another Bible doesn’t replace it,” Tammy Moniz told TODAY Parents. “What’s crazy is that so many things were lost, but we found my Bible and then my husband was joking because it would be typical that my bible survived and his didn’t, but then we found his! It was all wet, so right now it’s outside drying. It’s such a miracle.”

The fire had started in the garage, before spreading to a neighbor’s tree and creating an inferno. Kelia and her family are convinced that God was watching over them on that fateful day of the fire- and the proof was in the immaculate condition of the Bible.

A few days after her initial posts, Kelia shared a heartwarming update with her Instagram followers:

“I just wanted to say on behalf of my family I wanted to thank everyone for the kind of overwhelming amount of support and love that we’ve received,” she said. “We are so thankful that my parents are safe. Everything that they lost is definitely stuff that can be replaced. We are thankful for their safety and health…Thank you to everyone. We are overwhelmed with the amount of love.”
