Having a dog is a godsend for many families. Not only are dogs loyal, but they can also often sense how you are feeling. They do this by reading your overall body language, tone of voice, and facial expressions. Most dogs respond to our moods in different ways, depending on whether we are happy or sad, but mainly they show unconditional love for their owners.
When a person is sad, a dog usually cuddles up with that person in an attempt to sympathize with them and even make them feel better, in some cases. If a person is sick or incapacitated, many dogs will stay steadfast by their side, keeping watch.
If a person is happy or exuberant, a dog will, more than likely, join in with a cheerful disposition, celebrating with their owner or a loved family member. Regardless of their owner’s mood, dogs have a connection with people they are close with. These photos highlight dogs showing us just what unconditional love is … and it’s amazing!
1) Puppy Love
Here is a man and his puppy. You can see the love on the puppy’s face as the man holds him close and gives him a hug. Like many animals, dogs see a person for who they are and not so much according to their social status, as this puppy obviously does for his homeless owner.
2) Birthday Dog
All this woman’s father wanted was to be with the family dog for his birthday. And while it looks like the dad is totally devoted to the family pet, it also looks like the dog is just as devoted to him as well.
Here is another dog living with his homeless owner on the street. It seems like his owner has made sure to acquire everything he needs to care for his dog, including some food, a brush for his hair, and a toy for him to play with. Most importantly, it looks like he is also providing the love needed to raise a pet.
4) The Defender
Though terrified of the vacuum, this dog seems bound and determined to protect its little charge from the fearsome beast. At first it barks and runs when the vacuum is turned on, but then it circles back around to take a defensive posture over the infant lying on the blanket.
Here is another photo of a dog and his master living on the street. It seems like their relationship is mutually beneficial as they keep warm in each other’s arms. This dog could just leave this situation and find somewhere else to live, but has instead decided to stick by its owner through thick and thin.
While you wouldn’t think a dog could understand if someone was pregnant or not, even if you told them, this dog seems to sense that something is up. Look at how loving he is around the expectant mother. Maybe he can feel the little heartbeat with his paw and so he knows.
7) My Best Friend
Here is a photo of a man sharing his umbrella with his dog. Look how comfortable the dog is laying in his owner’s arms. I bet they go everywhere together having fun adventures on the streets of whatever city they live in.
8) Rescue Dog
Duncan is a diabetic alert dog. This means that when he senses his owner’s blood sugar levels dropping too low (dogs have such uncanny senses), he brings him a juice box. And while I know Duncan has been trained to do this, the fact that he is such a patient dog to be able to learn this in the first place is awesome!
You can just see the love between this dog and her owner. Looking at this picture, I get the feeling that these two are loyal to each other regardless of what life throws at them.
10) The New Friend
This baby is lucky; only three days old and she already has a friend. I find it amusing that this dog is staring intently as if he does not know what to make of the little human before him.
11) Hospital Stay
Here is another dog at the hospital with its sick owner. Sometimes the only thing that will make you feel better when you are sick is to have your pet by your side. The comfort they can bring is amazing, and, as you can see by this picture, a pet’s love is unconditional.
12) Bag of Toys
Here’s Eddie and his bag of toys. A therapy dog at a local Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, Eddie is never without it, carrying it faithfully down the hallways wherever he goes. The kids in this unit are lucky to have such a loving and loyal companion to help entertain them.
13) Look Into My Eyes
The look this dog is giving his owner is unmistakable. He loves her, and she knows it. Not every dog will sit there in the snow and sit quietly. And I am sure that she loves him just as much.
14) The Broken Leg
This man’s wife had a broken leg. Unfortunately, no one can get near it. Their dog looks ready to do what he must to keep everyone away from her injured leg. I wonder what will happen when she has to go to the doctor to get the cast removed.
15) Walking Together
Here’s a dog and his little friend as they walk down a wooded path. It looks like she has a good companion in this wolf half-breed. I am curious as to whether this dog has been with her since she was a baby and is now her friend for life?
16) Crawling Instructor
Here’s a dog who is teaching the newest member of the family how to crawl. Not only that, but he has the back leg drag down pat. I wonder if he will also be able to teach the baby when he starts to walk? Probably not.
Here’s another example of a little baby and a puppy growing up together. Here they lie, asleep together. They look so innocent. They have no idea what the world will throw at them later on in life, but I think they will be OK as long as they have each other.
This dog is so happy to see his owner that he can’t contain himself when he gets home. Chances are that the owner is probably used to this by now and is ready when he walks in the door.
This little girl is using her doggie companion as a pillow, but it doesn’t seem that she minds. She is content to lay there and let her little friend snuggle close. She better enjoy it while she can because when the little girl gets older, she may not have the time for such snuggling.
Sometimes it just so hard to say goodbye. According to the poster, this is how her dog says its farewells, with one last hug out the car window before leaving. With such a sweet goodbye, I bet the hellos are even sweeter.
21) Pretty, Pretty Princess
Look how obedient this dog is, sitting patiently while his little friend blows bubbles. Never mind the fact that she has him dressed as a pretty, pretty princess. I have a feeling he doesn’t mind and would be willing to do just about anything for this little girl.
22) Little Brother
This dog has a new little brother. I bet she can’t wait until he is old enough to play with. It looks like she is already totally devoted to the tiny babe. Or, maybe, she is trying to decide what it is?
23) Bath Time
Here are two boys with their dog taking a bath. It looks like the dog doesn’t like to get wet — with hilarious results. I hope Mom is ready to clean up the mess they are making, but at least the dog is clean. Talk about killing two birds with one stone.
24) Nurse Dog
Wow! It’s uncanny how this little dog knows how to cover someone up. It is either a very smart dog or has been trained well. I mean, how would it even know that a blanket is used by humans to cover up with?
Here is a small pup looking up to its little master, holding out its paw as they play outside. I wonder if he is offering his paw as an oath to be the boy’s lifelong companion and friend. I hope the boy takes such a thing seriously, as good friends are hard to come by.
26) The Protectors
When this pet owner got sick, all the household pets decided to protect him, even the cat. Knowing cats, I have a feeling that the cat is just there because he doesn’t want to be left out of the party.
27) This Tastes Funny
I wonder what a baby’s back tastes like. I bet this dog could tell you. Probably all sweet and sugary. Then again, this dog could be giving his little friend a good cleaning. At the very least he could make sure to dry him after he is done.
28) Just Chillin’
The patient of this dog is amazing. It’s not every day that you find an animal willing to sit still long enough to act as an impromptu back rest. Must be nice to be able to sit back, chill, and watch a little TV without even needing a chair.
29) Love in Return
Here is a sweet moment between a dog owner and her dog. Look at the love each of them have for each other, as evidenced in this simple hug. You can tell that dog loves her with all his heart, as I am sure she does too.
30) Water Dog
This dog is such a help when its owner is sick; he even brings them water. I’m not sure if the dog is doing it out of the kindness of his heart or if he’s been trained to fetch water when asked. Either way, it seems like just another one of the nice perks of owning a dog.
31) Hold My Paw
This man’s dog is trained to make his owner hold his paw when the owner gets sad. I’ve always wondered if dogs trained in such a manner have a sense of compassion when following their training or if they do it because that is what they were taught to do. I would like to think that this dog really loves his owner and would gladly do this service, trained or not.
32) The Greeting
Here’s a hilarious GIF showing a dog who just can’t wait for this kid to get home, even going to the extreme of meeting him at the school bus as he gets off. To top it off, the dog carries his books to the house for him. What a sweet dog!
All this dog wants to do is show this little baby how to jump. Look at him go as he demonstrates to the child how you are supposed to do it. The baby, for his part, seems to take it all in stride and actually seems excited.
This sweet little dog is sitting patiently by the front door awaiting the arrival of his owner. It’s uncanny how dogs can sense their owner, even when they are still driving up the street. While I know it is probably just a familiarity with the sound of their vehicle, I like to think they have super powers instead.
35) The Savior
This man’s wife saved their tiny dog’s life by jumping into an icy pond to save him. Exhausted, the wife fell asleep after returning home from their icy ordeal. This is how the husband found the dog as his wife slept.
36) Mom’s Dog
While this dog might belong to her child, it looks like mom has the full devotion of every dog in the house. According to this poster, when her mom feels bad, her dog can be found right by her mother’s side.
37) Hug Me
This dog owner describes how the best part of his day is the hug he receives when he returns home from work. In this photo, you can see just how much his dog loves and misses him.
38) The Babysitter
The maternal instinct of this dog kicked in when the baby of the family got sick. Here she is trying to comfort the child. And while she is not the girl’s real mother, she still cares for her and hopes that she gets better soon.
39) Water Warrior
This dog is a wave warrior, protecting the daughter from the frightful waves in the ocean. Not only does he shield her from the waves, he actually runs in front of her to keep her from going too far out into the water.
This dog, named Tony, stayed by the side of his owner when he got injured pruning a tree next to their house. Having fallen, the paramedics were called. The whole time Tony sat protectively atop his master trying to console him.
