Danny Trejo – big, tough, and scary. Most noted for his roles typically playing tough guys, rough characters, and villains in movies such as “Machete”, Danny Trejo’s immediately-recognizable appearance makes him hard to overlook.
He has starred in over 750 different roles, mostly tough characters and bad guys, but in his personal life, he’s nothing of the sort.
Danny Trejo was driving on the highway in Sylmar, Los Angeles when he came upon a vehicle which had rolled over onto its hood.
The car had been flipped on end after two vehicles collided when a car ran through a red light at an intersection. Glass was shattered all over the road.
Danny Trejo and another person witnessing the events ran to help.
There was a young child stuck inside the vehicle, still strapped into his car seat. The driver of the vehicle was also pinned. As Danny tried to crawl into the vehicle, he could not reach to detach the seatbelt to free the child.
Another young woman came over to assist. She wiggled into the other side of the car and was able to unbuckle the strap.
As the strap was freed, Danny pulled the child out of the vehicle when he realized the child was clearly shaken up from the event and needed to think fast.
That’s when Danny noticed the child had special needs.
Danny works with children with special needs and put his training to good use. He thought of a quick solution to help calm the child.
“He was panicked. I said OK, we have to use our superpowers. So he screamed ‘superpowers’ and we started yelling ‘superpowers,” Trejo said. “I said do this, with the muscles. He said ‘muscles.'”
“We got kind of a bond. I kept facing him away from the accident.” recalls Trejo.
Firefighters on-scene were working to pull the child’s grandmother from the vehicle. She was pinned down and they had to use special equipment to free her.
Three people were sent to the hospital, but thankfully, no one was seriously injured.
Danny Trejo’s quick thinking and swift action helped prevent any other harm or chaos to the child amidst a scary situation.
Helping the child find his “superpowers” was a brilliant and helpful solution to keep the child calm and occupied. His outlook on helping others is inspiring.
“Everything good that has happened to me has happened as a direct result of helping someone else. Everything.” says Trejo.
Danny Trejo’s quick thinking and willingness to take action helped diffuse a terrible situation.
