Four dapper gentlemen in hats steal the show singing medley with Lady Gaga song

February 12th, 2020

Our parents and grandparents have always painted a pretty incredible picture of how it once was. You know, the good old days… when dressing smartly on the daily wasn’t laughed at, when everyone could sing and dance with so much character and style, and when music was simple yet sounded absolutely perfect. All we have from decades past are stories. Photographs. Detailed accounts incorporated in works of fiction, and biographies outlined in books and film.

And with just enough imagination, you get to envision how spectacular it all was, too.

What we have today is nothing short of amazing, too, especially when creative souls come up with ways to seamlessly mix the old and the new – just like what a capella group Main Street did.

Four stylishly dressed men sporting ensembles straight out of the 1930s to the 1940s stood around a single microphone as they waited to begin their performance. The a capella group feigned (or perhaps it was real, who knows?) a brief warm-up session on stage by vocalizing and harmonizing. Then after a few minutes, the incredible performance began.

Their first song was a Judy Holliday classic entitled “These Will Be the Good Old Days (Twenty Years from Now)”.

The a capella group’s version of the song was as charming as can be. It was only the start of their number but the audience knew they were in for a treat.

And since the warm-up and the intro set the tone for the rest of the performance, the party began. The audience started laughing appreciatively the minute they heard the lyrics of “Oops! I Did It Again” by Britney Spears being sung by an a capella group wearing threads inspired by the timeless era of Broadway-meets-Hollywood. A few seconds into singing a Britney hit and they launched into a funny take of “Bye Bye Bye” by N Sync.

The group even incorporated steps from the iconic pop music videos into their routine.

It was as funny, charming, and creative as can be.

The pop medley just got better and better with each song. No pop medley would be complete without a Bruno Mars track, and they couldn’t have picked a better one to act to. More than just a capella singers, the group also did some comedic acting which was definitely a crowd pleaser. Their rendition of “Uptown Funk” was one with funny facial expressions, feigned hesitation to hit the notes, and more acting.

There was even some hip shaking, too!

And what else inspired it but “Moves Like Jagger” by Maroon 5? Before that, though, the audience thought the act was coming to a close as the group hinted at saying goodbye through more song lyrics… until the audience realized they were already singing “Poker Face” by Lady Gaga.

And just when you think they’re finally about to conclude the performance, familiar lyrics were once again heard. This time, it was Meghan Trainor’s “All About That Bass”, followed hilariously by “Gangnam Style”, complete with the dance steps!

It was a refreshing medley with a twist – the best kind.

After all, how many singing groups can turn something as ordinary as singing a medley of pop songs into a whimsical number that just takes you back? The a capella group looked like something out of a black and white show, complete with the tipping of hats.

Main Street gave an entertaining representation of both the old and new. The classic aesthetic, mixed with pop culture favorites (the dance steps made it even better) and comical facial expressions, highlighted all the group had to offer: sing, act, dance, and harmonize.

It was delightful and inspired.

Main Street ended it with the same old school feel mixed with a little bit of Lady Gaga and Michael Jackson.

It was an instant hit that earned them a standing ovation. Get ready to be entertained as you press play!
