There are many different types of places to find work at and one booming industry is the theatre. Which means there is usually lots of opportunities to find work in this setting. However, for those who think that this may be a cushy job they may change their minds after reading about some of the experiences that theatre employers have had in this type of work environment.



1) The Complainers
People know by now that its expensive to go to the movie, and they hate the rule that no outside food or drink can be brought in. Some go nuts over the price of the food at the concession stands and hold up the line complaining about it.

A regular movie theatre patron attends the theatre on a regular basis to watch the early show. Once he has finished his drink, he disgustingly pees back into the cup.

Almost everyone one has some general reaction to a movie whether its sad or funny. But there are some that leave the theatre so emotionally distraught that you would think that their best friend had just died.

She argued aggressively with the baby on her hip and finally left but proceeded to call the manager and to express her anger, stating she was about to become physically violent.

It seems like young teens going on their first date always pick the movie theatre. This is where mom and dad drop them off and pick them up. Then they realize that they can’t chat or get to know each other. They have to just sit there in silence. Although there have been some that have been caught doing a lot more than that. Bet Mom and Dad didn’t think about this.

Not only is this movie horrific it can sexually explicit. Yet some parents will bring their toddlers along with them to see it. Time and again there has been a sobbing youngster to be heard above the screams of the crowd when a grizzly murder is taking place.

A lot of theatre staff are surprised at just how may people come to watch a movie and sleep through the who thing. Maybe they are just paying the price of a movie so they can have a comfortable chair to sleep in instead of a park bench.

When people are constantly complaining about the cost of going to the theatre and taking it out on the staff, they are forgetting one thing. The majority of the money made goes back to the movie distributor. So instead of shouting at the staff have a little sympathy for how little pay they are working for.

On cheap Tuesday nights for some reason, one of the patrons would always poop in a sink in the ladies bathroom. Since it occured every single Tuesday night the staff was determined to catch the culprit. It turned out to be an underaged teenage girl who was not permitted to watch any restricted movies by the staff.

Popcorn always smells better at the movie theatre. That’s because most often chemicals have been added to so it will smell great and entice people to buy it.

Three elderly men would come in on a regular basis a few times a week. They all would indulge in chewing tobacco and leave their disgusting spit cans behind for the staff to clean up.

Some movie theatre employees say the only food they will eat when at the theatre is popcorn, drinks and wrapped or box candy. They stay away from nachos or the pretzels and even the hotdogs. However, they don’t say why.

This one man who frequented the movie theatre alone would always rudely approach the concession stand and throw his bag of popcorn at them and say butter. No please, no nothing, not even eye contact. It’s no wonder he was always alone.

The theatre concessions aim to please but its no joke when the lineup is a mile long and the next customer asks for unsalted popcorn. Which is now going to take several minutes to make.

This woman came up to the ticket office to buy her movie ticket and the sales representative asked if she would like the seniors discount. The woman went offside and asked to speak to the manager. When the manager came over to speak with her and found out what the issue was, the manager asked if she was over 65 and the woman said yes. The manager replied the sales representative was just doing their job.

At a Cineplex staff always have to be on the look out for those who have purchased tickets for the children’s show but are really hoping to sneak into the R-rated movies.

One would think that with today’s modern technology that calling the movie theatre to ask when the next movie is playing would be obsolete. Well sad to say its not. Staff are constantly busy answering this same question over and over again.

On several occasions when people have come to the theatre to watch a foreign movie, they haven’t read about the movie being in another language and having to read subtitles. They become very offended and complain to the staff, like they can do anything about it.

This one family came in with a huge bag of take out food with the name of the company on the bag. When the family was approached and told they couldn’t bring it in, they caused a huge ruckus. There are some enjoyable moments for movie staffers. They get a big kick out of watching the audience when it’s a 3D movie. There are always a few in the crowd that try to reach out and touch the screen.

There are some movie staffers who are convinced that there are some patrons that come to the movie theatre just so they can down some alcohol without having to worry about who is watching them. It is not unusual to find a few empties under the seats during clean up

A couple that regularly attended the movie theatre would never buy anything from the concession stand, but at the end of the movie there would always be chicken wing bones all over the floor. The strangest part about this is, everyone’s bag gets checked upon entry and there was no food in their bag.

There are a lot of nasty chores that have to be dealt with by theatre staff. One of the worst is when the manager asks an employee to dig under the seats to find a lost item for a patron.

During clean up one night, one of the staff members found the weirdest thing. She found a trash bag full of chicken bones. Not only that, the trash bag had duct tape on it and it was full of hair. Obviously someone sneaked in some food.

Or they just take it for granted that the staff is there to clean up after them. After all isn’t that what they are getting paid for? That’s what the assumption is of many.

The most disgusting thing one of the movie theatre staff members came across was a used condom in the movie theatre where Shrek 3 was playing. Don’t think it was a kid.

Some that come to the movies do so with the intent of filming the movie itself. Staffers have to be on the look out for this and what the person doesn’t realize is that this actually against the law and can land them in jail.

One managers biggest complaint from many people who choose to arrive late for the movie is that the theatre oversold tickets because there is no seating left. The manager explains it is impossible to oversell the tickets because the computer system states the theatre is full at 90% of the seating capacity. Arrive early people.

There are some movie watchers that just can’t wait till intermission to use the bathroom. So reluctantly off they go not wanting to miss a second of the movie. They are in such a hurry they don’t even take the time to flush the toilets. When you get enough customers doing this one can only imagine what cleaning the washrooms is like.

The most gross thing that is a reoccuring event for one theatre employee is the fact that people continuously pee on the seats. The whole theatre smells like a fish factory.

On the odd occasion, a theatre manager may tell an employee they can leave early, and the worker feels like they have just won the lottery.


60) Permission To Be Promiscuous
This one couple came into the theatre and watched a kids movie, when they came out they asked the manager if they could go back into the theatre and have sex. The stunned manager simply stated absolutely not.
