No one deserves to feel humiliated the way Jimmy had to endure. The embarrassment brought by the cashier's insensitive act deeply hurt him.

Although today’s society has grown more mature about being inclusive of its people no matter what race, gender or size, there are still people out there who seem to be ignorant of this fact. One man was a victim of this discrimination in the form of body-shaming, and it was a totally unexpected thing that left him feeling hurt and humiliated.

On October 4, Jimmy Shue from North Carolina went to Wendy’s to grab some food for himself and his fiancee. He decided to order two sandwiches, and gave the cashier his name for them to type in the receipt so they could call him out later for his order.

He clearly remembered that he mentioned his name to the cashier. But, when he got the receipt, he was surprised to find that the name the female employee typed was “chubby” instead of his name.

“The girl asked me my name at the register, so I gave her my name clear as day, “Jimmy”. She said, “Okay, thank you,” handed me the ticket, and I didn’t pay no mind at first until looked down at it while I was waiting and saw it said “Chubby,”‘ he said to WFMY.

Another employee had to call out his name when it was finally time for him to get his order. The employee, although reluctant after seeing the name on the receipt, decided to call him aloud anyway.

“He was hesitant to even say “Chubby” but he did and I told him, “That’s not my name but that’s my order,” and I grabbed the order and started to walk out because I was mad,” Shue said.

“Everybody started laughing in the restaurant, and I got really embarrassed,” he added.

Out of so much humiliation and utter embarrassment, Jimmy grabbed his packed order and went out of the restaurant as fast as he could. He was deeply hurt by what the cashier did to him. He posted about his embarrassing experience on his Facebook account.

After the incident, Wendy’s corporate head office issued an official statement to WBTV, a CBS affiliate, saying that they are taking appropriate action for what happened.

“We work very hard to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for our employees and customers,” it says in part. “We investigated this matter and have taken appropriate action.”

The franchise owner of the said Wendy’s location stated that the employee who wrote “chubby” on the receipt was already fired.

Wherever we are, there will always be people who do not care about being inclusive. They can shame you for your size, race or even gender. These people need to be taught that our society today is a more mature society that looks beyond these so-called classifications. In other words, we are all equally deserving of being accepted without any conditions.

Jimmy’s experience only shows that these kinds of people still exist, and that we need to do something to correct their views. Nobody deserves to be humiliated that way, and nobody has the right to make others feel inferior just because of certain “standards” that don’t even define their entire personality.

The truth is that all of us deserve to feel accepted. There is no race, size, gender or whatever limit that can ever keep us from feeling that way. There can be a lot of differences in terms of physical aspects, but these differences are not significant enough to rob us of our right to be accepted.
