Some people just have a heart of gold and many good deeds go unnoticed. But thanks to an inside glimpse through this woman’s camera doorbell, we get to see a kind act of a man just trying to make the world a better place.

The elderly woman had fallen in the past.

Colette Kingston’s mother sadly had fallen and had a head injury one day while attempting to remove her trash can out of her driveway. Opal needed eight stitches from her last fall. Her mother, Opal, has dementia and is 88 years old and Colette was concerned for her safety. She thoughtfully installed a security camera that detects motion on the outside of her front door.

Colette checked the footage regularly, keeping a careful eye out for her mother and had noticed on a few occasions a sanitation worker talking with her mother. Then one morning Colette was alerted when there was movement outside of her mother’s home.

The camera picked up motion and alerted the daughter that someone was at her mother’s home.

What Colette saw brought tears to her eyes. She saw the man dragging the garbage can back up to the front of Opal’s home. They had a small conversation and when Colette had a chance to listen, she was grateful for the man’s kindness. He held Opal’s hand and carried the can with the other as they made their way up the driveway.

“Alright well, good to see you…God bless you as always, darling,” the sanitation worker says as he reaches to give her a hug, “You’re looking good. I like that hair. You got it down!”

They both laugh as the man says he needs to work on his hair as well. He waves goodbye and heads back to his garbage truck to go about the rest of his day. Colette notes how little often sanitation workers are noticed for their hard work.

Colette told WDAF news, “Most of the time you don’t even know their face, let alone a name with them.”

The sanitation worker was reaching out in kindness.

The sanitation worker had seen the woman fall several months back and knew that she needed assistance. With his truck parked at the end of her driveway, he brought the can up by her door and kindly asked about her day. Colette wants to do something for the man who has taken good care of Opal when he is there.

“He’s just a very wonderful person so I really appreciate him.” Opal told WDAF Kansas City.

Obviously, the sanitation worker did not know that he was on camera or that anyone would ever know of his actions. He treated Opal with kindness and respect and went well out of his way to help her. A simple act of kindness for him has sparked a beautiful example of generosity.
