When there is a serious storm coming, humans prepare by stocking up on supplies and securing their homes for the brunt force Mother Nature is about to bestow.

But humans aren’t the only ones taking precautions.

Animals can also sense when there is bad weather on the way. While some animals will hunker down or seek shelter, one Texas woman snapped a photo of a dog stocking up on some groceries after Hurricane Harvey touched down in Sinton, just north of Corpus Christi.

Tiele Dockens spotted an unlikely sight when she was surveying the damage in her town.

“It was after the storm this morning when I went to town to check damage on properties,” she told HuffPost on Saturday. “Lots of people were out in their yards and streets cleaning up branches, trees and debris.”

In addition to humans in their yards, Dockens spotted a dog carrying a rather large bag of food while walking down the street.

“This dog is walking around Sinton TX carrying a entire bag of dog food with him. LOL #refugee,” her photo caption on Facebook read. “PSA: Owner is found. He is not a stray he just got out of his street. Dogs name is Otis.”

Dockens was shocked by the dog’s resourcefulness, to say the least.

“I don’t know where he got it from, but it was so funny,” she told NBC News, TODAY reports.

Dockens was concerned for the golden retriever mix, who she later found out was named Otis, and was pleased to find out that the dog made it home safely… with his food.

Otis’ owner, Salvador Segovia, also didn’t know where Otis got the bag of food from but suspects it may have been from a local lumber yard. He said Otis was scared by the storm and ran off from his back porch. He was gone for about four hours before he came back home with his bag of dog food in tow.

He just plopped back down on his porch like it was nothing. Dockens’ post went viral on social media and has gotten more than 35,000 shares. Many said that Otis truly embodies the Texas survivalist spirit.

“Must be a Texas dog cause he can survive without help,” one commenter said on Facebook.

Thankfully, Otis and Dockens are OK but in a Facebook video Dockens reminds us that there are those who could use our prayers, support, and donations.
